Born with cerebral palsy, writer, filmmaker and activist, Michael C. Cooney was a trailblazer as a kid in the 80s in the area of disability rights and education. Michael’s alter ego, Orbit Deen, a swashbuckling, cosmic cowboy — who might be an alien robot— was established to help Michael deal with being bullied as a kid. He continued his persona as a young DJ in clubs in the 90s.
After earning his MFA, Michael traveled the world speaking on creativity and disabled rights.
Michael and C.J. Pizarro, aka Mista Cookie Jar, joined forces in graduate school. Orbit Deen was brought back to life as the two began to collaborate on a number of family music Sirius XM chart topping songs. One of those songs was called, Beautiful You. Now Orbit and Cookie are setting out to change the world.
What is The Beautiful You Project? We seek to redefine and celebrate what is beautiful and help those marginalized communities to discover the beauty in themselves. With our podcast and our empowerment fashion line, we seek to inspire educate and employ talented individuals from marginalized communities.
